This Halloween Season, FARE Is Introducing the First-Ever Teal Pumpkin Walk-In!

Families across the country are joining FARE to bring the Teal Pumpkin Project to the local offices of elected officials.

Take Part in the Teal Pumpkin Walk-In!

Halloween is supposed to be spooky fun. But when a child with food allergy sees a bowl filled with candy, they can feel left out or even afraid. Many favorite candies contain common food allergens as ingredients.

Teal Pumpkin Walk-In

For over a decade, the Teal Pumpkin Project has helped make trick-or-treating fun for everyone by encouraging households to offer non-food treats. Every year, FARE’s online map catalogues thousands of participating addresses.

Through FARE's Teal Pumpkin Walk-In, children and parents will visit their local representatives in costume, bringing the joy and message of the Teal Pumpkin Project straight to the doors of decision makers.

Instead of trick-or-treating for sweets, they'll be walking in for change, and sharing how simple acts like placing a teal pumpkin on a doorstep or printed sign in a window can transform Halloween for the nearly 6 million children in the U.S. living with food allergies.

The Teal Pumpkin Walk-In is more than a holiday activity—it's education in action, led by kids whose voices remind us that every child deserves to feel safe and celebrated. Join the movement!

Two Ways to Participate!

Visit legislators in your area:

Starting October 1 through October 29, FARE encourages children and parents to visit their local representatives in costume bringing the joy and the message of the Teal Pumpkin Project straight to the doors of decision makers in their field offices.

  • You’re not visiting to advocate on a particular issue or bill. You’re visiting to raise food allergy awareness—and share a little Halloween magic.
  • You can “reverse trick-or-treat” and deliver small, inexpensive non-food treats to their offices. Kids should wear costumes!
  • When food allergy patients and families share their stories, it’s good for everyone.
  • Ask for a photo with the legislator, and ask if they would be willing to share the photo and signify their support of those with food allergies to their social media pages—turn social media teal!

Washington D.C.-area families:

On Wednesday, October 29, FARE will gather D.C.-area families and reverse trick-or-treat through the halls of Congress, bringing non-food treats to legislators and sharing experiences. What an incredible opportunity to educate legislators and build support for the food allergy community!

For more information, questions, or to sign up: Contact FARE's VP of Legislative Affairs, Peter Spiro.

Teal Pumpkin Project

The Teal Pumpkin Project is a simple way to make trick-or-treating welcoming to all. A teal pumpkin on your doorstep signals that you offer non-food treats and trinkets that can delight every trick-or-treater.
