McLEAN, Va. (Feb. 28, 2017) – Food Allergy Research & Education is pleased to announce today the revitalization of FARE’s Food Allergy Heroes Walk, which proudly and vibrantly celebrates the everyday heroes in the food allergy community. The revamped fundraising program is a key step in FARE’s continuing efforts to drive advancements that will improve the lives of 15 million Americans with food allergies.

Previously known as the FARE Walk for Food Allergy, FARE’s Food Allergy Heroes Walk serves as a critically important vehicle by which FARE makes a national impact – raising vital funds to advance FARE’s mission of improving the life and health of individuals with food allergies while providing hope through the promise of new treatments.

FARE’s Food Allergy Heroes Walk also provides an opportunity for those affected by food allergies to make lasting connections, unite in a welcoming environment and inspire one another. FARE’s tagline for the Walk, “Connect. Unite. Inspire.” evokes these actions.

“We are thrilled to bring FARE’s Food Allergy Heroes Walk to cities across the country and provide a fresh, exciting experience for returning and new walkers,” said Chief Advancement Officer Lois A. Witkop. “Unsung heroes in the food allergy community are everywhere – at home, in schools and in doctor’s offices and clinical labs – and we honor their passion and spirit through these events that will enable FARE to make an even bigger impact.”

For more than a decade, walkers across the nation have been a part of growing movement to broaden awareness of food allergy as a serious public health issue and raise much-needed funds to address gaps in research and other programs. Together, walkers have raised more than $25 million since the inception of the Walk in 2004.

Donations and sponsorships in support of the walks have funded cutting-edge food allergy research, world-class educational programs that help individuals live well with food allergies, advocacy initiatives that have expanded access to life-saving epinephrine and awareness campaigns that have elevated the profile of food allergy nationally.

Participating in FARE’s Food Allergy Heroes Walk will be simpler than ever, with a new website experience that is designed to help walkers quickly register and make it easy for their family and friends to join.
