FARE documentary “A World Unaware” to be screened at the New York Academy of Medicine

Screening presented by FARE, the New York Academy of Medicine Nursing Section, in collaboration with the Food Allergy Nursing Association

McLEAN, Va. — Feb. 5, 2026FARE (Food Allergy Research & Education) today announced it will present a screening of “A World Unaware: When Every Bite Matters” on Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2026, at the New York Academy of Medicine (NYAM).

The screening is presented by the New York Academy of Medicine Nursing Section, in collaboration with the Food Allergy Nursing Association (FANA) and FARE (Food Allergy Research & Education) as part of NYAM’s Narrative Health in Action series, Food Allergies Through the Lens of Experience, which uses documentary film and discussion to incorporate patient and family perspectives into healthcare education and public understanding.

“A World Unaware” focuses on food allergy as a serious disease of the immune system, impacting more than 33 million people in the U.S. including one in 10 adults, and one in 13 children. The film challenges the misconception that food allergy is a dietary preference and demonstrates how gaps in awareness and understanding can contribute to preventable risk.

“We’re grateful to the New York Academy of Medicine Nursing Section and the Food Allergy Nursing Association for coming together to host this screening and for their shared commitment to elevating food allergy awareness through education,” said Sung Poblete, PhD, RN, CEO of FARE. “By grounding discussion in real experiences, the film helps healthcare professionals and the general public better understand the seriousness and life-threatening nature of food allergy and the importance of awareness, communication, and shared responsibility.”

The program will begin with a reception, followed by the screening and a moderated panel discussion. Jeremy A. Abbate, Vice President and Publisher of Scientific American, will moderate the conversation with panelists Sung Poblete, PhD, RN, CEO of FARE; Anna Nowak-Wegrzyn, MD, PhD, allergist at NYU Langone Health; Susan Kelly, RN, BSN, founding member of the Food Allergy Nursing Association; and Kathy Briden, parent and food allergy policy advocate.

This event is free and open to the public; advance registration is required. To register, please visit this link. For more information about FARE, please visit us at www.foodallergy.org.
