FARE Convenes Food Allergy Allies and Champions Throughout the Month of May, Extending Food Allergy Awareness Week to Food Allergy Awareness Month!
FARE to lead activities that celebrate individuals who take action on their behalf or in support of friends, family, colleagues, and community members living with this disease
McLEAN, Va. — April 30, 2024 — FARE (Food Allergy Research & Education), the leading nonprofit organization engaged in food allergy education and advocacy—and the largest provider of charitable support for food allergy research in the U.S.—today announced it is extending Food Allergy Awareness Week (May 12-18) to make May Food Allergy Awareness Month!
FARE has marked May as a time to convene allies and champions to come together and raise awareness of this often invisible, but potentially life-threatening disease.
“This month, we honor and celebrate our community and those who stand with us,” said Sung Poblete, PhD, RN, CEO of FARE. “This is a time of inclusivity—another opportunity to extend the dining table to champions and allies, elevate the disease of food allergy to a tier-one healthcare concern, and advance research funding for the disease. We hope this menu of activities brings us all together around the table to promote awareness of food allergies and all that our community overcomes every day!”
FARE will lead activities that highlight those who pave the way forward, featuring a unique theme for each day during the week of May 12-18. The week will begin with those closest to the food allergy patient, before advancing toward innovation on the horizon:
- Sunday, May 12: Mother’s Day, honoring moms (and other caregivers including dads, grandparents, and guardians)
- Monday, May 13: Honor Your Doctors, Nurses, Dieticians, Clinicians, and Researchers
- Tuesday, May 14: Honor Your Teachers, School Staff, and Cafeteria Workers
- Wednesday, May 15: Celebrating the Food Service and Hospitality Industry
- Thursday, May 16: Celebrating Advocacy
- Friday, May 17: Celebrating the FARE Community of Food Allergy Patients
- Saturday, May 18: Celebrating Innovation and the Future
To spotlight the themes, a new video will be released each day of Food Allergy Awareness Week.
As part of FARE’s goal to convene allies of food allergy patients and champions—those living with food allergies—the organization has invited all to sign the pledge and declare that alliance with the food allergy community. Those who sign the pledge may see their name in lights during Food Allergy Awareness Week as part of the FARE display on an iconic Times Square billboard in New York City!
