Washing hands and cleaning surfaces properly reduces the risk of exposure to food allergens. The Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) recommend teaching children, school staff, and volunteers appropriate hand-washing procedures that emphasize the use of soap and water. Hand sanitizers are not effective in removing food allergens. 

In the classroom, cafeteria, school bus, field trips, recess, and activities before or after school, enforcing hand-washing practices can reduce cross-contact of allergens. This poster can help promote good hand-washing practices before and after handling or eating food.
