Why We Need the FASTER Act
32 million people suffer with food allergies. There is no cure. There isn’t even a treatment. The government spends only 19 cents per person on research.
This must change.
The Food Allergy Safety, Treatment, Education & Research (FASTER) Act, H.R. 2117, lays the groundwork for jumpstarting the additional research we need. The bill:
- Requires the federal government to gather comprehensive, nationwide data about the incidence and growth rates of the different types of food allergies
- Updates allergen labeling laws to include sesame. It would also require updated labeling for new allergens as scientific evidence emerges.
