National Director of Special Events

McLean, VA or New York, NY

The Director of Events reports to FARE's Chief of Institutional Advancement and is responsible for organizing and executing all of FARE’s events throughout the country. S/he works with the Director of Development, Major Gifts and Director of Corporate Partnerships very closely to guide strategy on development goals overall. S/he will be responsible for spearheading all strategic and logistical aspects of multiple events and activities and managing the Events Manager and all event consultants across the country.  The Director of Events prepares event-specific budget projections and fundraising goals for the events department. This position builds ongoing relationships with active event co-chairs and committees (whenever applicable) and works very closely with the Major Gifts and Corporate teams to share collaboration opportunities. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for a streamlined event planning process working with the Marketing & Communications teams on collectively creating a consistent brand for FARE events, maximizing resources to keep costs within budget and working closely with development team colleagues to annual organizational goal. 
  • Direct and manage events, including:
    • Oversee staff executing logistical aspects of luncheons, cocktail events, symposiums, research events, cultivation events, conferences and other initiatives as needed. 
    • Prepare event-specific expense budget projections and fundraising goals with the Chief of Institutional Advancement and  monitor and report weekly numbers. 
    • Maintain vendor relationships as needed.
    • Maintain complete and accurate electronic and paper records for each event.
    • Handle follow-up tasks and reporting after each event
  • Manage Events Manager and event consultants to execute consistent strategic initiatives.
  • Work with data management team to ensure accurate reporting. 

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Minimum of 10 years professional fundraising event experience
  • Nonprofit experience working as part of a development team with significant fundraising goals
  • Strong attention to detail and follow-through
  • Ability to work effectively with multiple stakeholders, e.g., colleagues, board members, event co­ chairs and committees, and food allergic individuals and families
