“Houston’s Hometown Anchor” Dominique Sachse has spent years covering stories that impact scores of Houston residents, but off-duty, she has devoted countless hours to charity work.

Sachse, who has a longtime presence in the Houston community as a member of the KPRC Local 2 news team, has focused her charitable efforts on causes related to animals, breast cancer, and notably, food allergies. Her partnership with FAAN is especially meaningful, as her 5-year-old son Styles recently outgrew his allergy to milk.

As a mother of a child who outgrew a food allergy, Sachse understands what it is like to live with the challenges that members of the food allergy community know so well.  She knew as soon as her son was diagnosed with a milk allergy at the tender age of 3 weeks that major changes were in store.

“As Styles grew, it meant label-reading and big adjustments at kids’ parties, which are a dairy lover’s dream with pizza and cake,” Sachse said.

The Emmy-nominated Sachse has been recognized with multiple awards by both her peers and Houston residents for her quality journalism. She is also the Local Honorary Chair of the Walk for Food Allergy in Houston.

Sachse is looking forward to her role in raising awareness about food allergies, which affect as many as 15 million Americans.

“I find some people to be acutely aware and others to be completely in the dark on this subject,” she said. “It just reminds me that the message needs to get out there with frequency, and as a journalist, I'm thrilled to have the platform to do that.”

Sachse advises newly diagnosed families to get involved with FAAN. “The support, resources available, and fundraising opportunities put you in a place of empowerment instead of feeling like a victim.”
