Holiday Tips

Holiday parties and social events can pose challenges for those with food allergies. Here are some tips to help overcome these challenges and get in the holiday mood:

  • Avoid surprises by explaining to your host what your food concerns are before you arrive at the party. Nothing can ruin the holiday spirit more than a trip to the emergency room!
  • Share FAAN’s How to Read a Label sheet with your host. This can help the host make allergy-safe choices in the grocery store.
  • Offer to help cook or bring something to share.
  • Bring your host a gift of homemade allergy-free treats. You’ll be sure there is something safe for you to eat, and you’ll show others that allergy-free foods can be delicious!
  • Always carry your medications, such as epinephrine, with you. When it comes to food allergy management, it is always better to be safe than sorry!
