Frank Dicopoulos Joins FAAN's Mission to Raise Awareness and Educate Others About Food Allergies
FAIRFAX, Va. (May 17, 2010) – The Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Network (FAAN) is proud to announce that actor Frank Dicopoulos has become one of its “Ambassadors Who Care.”
Dicopoulos, best known for his role as Frank Cooper on the long-running CBS soap opera Guiding Light, is now embracing a new role as a celebrity spokesperson for FAAN. In this role, Dicopoulos will do his part to raise awareness about food allergies, a potentially life-threatening medical condition that affects 3 million children in the U.S.
“I honestly believe educating and bringing awareness to the public of this epidemic is a strong start,” Dicopoulos said.
Dicopoulos’s impassioned interest in food allergies stems from his own experience. He, along with his wife, Teja Anderson, and his daughter, Olivia, have food allergies. Dicopoulos, who is allergic to shrimp, recalls being terrified as he watched his loved ones going through an allergic reaction.
Dicopoulos is already involved with FAAN’s Walk for Food Allergy in Long Branch, N.J. scheduled for Sept. 11, an event that he has been a part of since 2008.
“We are honored that Frank, who has a true understanding of food allergies, will be helping us with our ongoing efforts in areas such as awareness and education,” said FAAN CEO Julia Bradsher. “Many Americans do not fully understand the severity of food allergies.”
