FAAN’s Board of Directors Gains Two New Board Members

FAIRFAX, Va. (Feb. 2, 2011) – FAAN (the Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis Network) is pleased to announce two new members who will serve on its Board of Directors (BOD).

Tracey Doi and Bob Lake have both been appointed to serve three-year terms on FAAN’s BOD, each bringing valuable experience and leadership.

Doi, of California, is group vice president and chief financial officer of Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A. (Toyota), the marketing, sales, distribution, and customer service arm of Toyota, Lexus, and Scion in the U.S. She is a member of Toyota’s audit committee, risk committee, and an officer for several subsidiaries. Doi served on the board of the March of Dimes in California for 14 years and is also involved in other nonprofits in the Japanese-American community.

Like some members of FAAN’s BOD, Doi has a personal connection to food allergies. Her 12-year-old daughter was diagnosed with a severe peanut allergy at the age of 18 months. In fact, Doi and her daughter recently participated in FAAN’s Walk for Food Allergy in Los Angeles. While the family has been diligent about food allergy management, a recent emergency room visit after a reaction caused by cross-contact at a restaurant has reinforced the family’s need to remain on alert.

“I’m honored to join the board of FAAN to help raise awareness and funds for food allergy education and research,” said Doi. “FAAN has provided significant assistance to our family, educating us on how to best protect our daughter, while helping her lead a normal life. FAAN’s website is a tremendous support system, with access to the latest research, tips and advice from other parents and teens, and instructional materials for school faculty.”

Lake, a retired director of regulations and policy in the Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition at the Food and Drug Administration, has recently served as a food safety consultant for various organizations including the FDA and the U.S. Agency for International Development. He has also been a consultant to the U. S. Codex Office and the Codex Alimentarius Commission, which implements the Joint Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations/World Health Organization Food Standards Program. Lake has senior level experience on food safety and food regulation, and has expertise on food labeling, a major issue for the food allergy community. While at FDA he provided technical assistance to Congress on the Food Allergen Labeling and Consumer Protection Act of 2004.

Lake, of Virginia, has spent many years committed to food safety and will provide FAAN with welcome insight into U.S. food regulation and labeling, as well as international food standards.

“FAAN is a first class organization with programs that are very important to those who suffer from food allergies and parents who have children with food allergies,” said Lake. “I’m delighted to be associated with FAAN and look forward to helping FAAN in any way I can.”

“We’re very pleased to welcome Tracey and Bob to FAAN’s Board of Directors,” said FAAN CEO Julia Bradsher. “They both offer expertise gained from years of professional experience as well their own personal perspectives.”
