Director of National Walk Program

FAAN’s national Walk for Food Allergy program raises almost $2.5 million dollars annually, includes walks in 40+ cities with over 30,000 participants, and requires coordinating the work of hundreds of volunteers. The Walk for Food Allergy program is FAAN’s primary source of revenue and critical to the success of the organization.

Position Summary

The Director is responsible for the entire Walk program, from strategy to budgeting to staffing to walk execution. The Walk program has a staff of 4-6 full time members who report directly to the Director. The Walk Coordinators, under the leadership of the Director, are responsible for recruiting and training a local volunteer Walk Chair for each individual Walk site and managing all aspects of event planning and logistics. Position based in corporate office located in Fairfax, VA.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement all facets of annual Walk program, including overseeing the management of the  event process for each of the more than 40 walk events
  • Evaluate site results and determine a strategy for future walk sites
  • Develop and implement national communications and marketing strategy
  • Together with Walk Coordinators, identify, recruit and train new volunteer leaders for each local walk
  • Develop and implement online fundraising strategy to support the Walks (Convio database)
  • Develop all supporting marketing materials with the help of the FAAN design and edit team
  • Evaluate value of incentive level rewards for participants and implement accordingly
  • Work with Director of Development to secure national and multi-site corporate sponsorships
  • Develop and document Walk procedures for distribution internally and externally
  • Develop and manage the budget for the entire Walk program
  • Supervise Walk staff

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in non-profit fundraising
  • Minimum of 5 years prior experience with a national organization as a leader in non-profit special event fundraising and volunteer management
  • Supervisory experience required.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills for interaction with internal and external audiences to include donors, volunteers, corporate sponsor representatives, medical experts and more
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills
  • Strong program management and strategic planning skills with proven ability to project and meet budgets in a growing organization
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
