The Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Network Names Two New Members to its Board of Directors

FAIRFAX, Va. (August 19, 2010) – FAAN (The Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Network) is delighted to welcome two new members to its Board of Directors who will help strengthen the organization in 2010 and beyond as it continues to be the go-to source of information for the food allergy community.

Adam Miller is the founder and CEO of Cornerstone OnDemand, a software firm specializing in integrated talent management, and chairman of the Cornerstone OnDemand Foundation, which provides non-profits with the software, support and consulting services needed to manage and develop their people and increase their impact in the communities they serve. Prior to founding Cornerstone OnDemand, Miller worked as an attorney and as an investment banker. He also has co-authored two books, Business Capital for Women and Managing Your Inheritance.

Mireille Schwartz, who left a successful career at Lucasfilm to focus on family and philanthropy, is the founder of the Bay Area Allergy Advisory Board. She has also made her mark in San Francisco by working with area charities such as the homeless shelter Raphael House and Friends of the Urban Forest. In 2009, she was honored with the Bay Area Change Starts at Home “Changemakers” Award.

“Adam and Mireille each have diverse experience – their respective expertise will be incredible assets to FAAN,” said FAAN CEO Julia Bradsher. “We look forward to working with them as FAAN forges ahead with its mission to find a cure for food allergy, to raise awareness, and to educate others about this potentially fatal medical condition.”

Miller, of Los Angeles, and Schwartz, of San Francisco, were named to the 12-member Board in June for 3-year terms and both have personal connections to food allergies. Miller has children with food allergies and Schwartz and her daughter both have food allergies.

“I am honored to join such an important organization,” said Miller. “Food allergies are a problem not well understood by most, but one that is very real and needs to be addressed.”

And for Schwartz, giving back to the community runs in the family – Schwartz is the granddaughter of former U.N. Ambassador Apollo Kironde.

“Joining the FAAN Board of Directors and working alongside Julia is one of the greatest working accomplishments of my life,” Schwartz said. “The opportunity to serve a greater community than the Bay Area is inspiring, and I believe we currently are at a pinnacle moment for food allergy advocacy and education.”

Schwartz will also be the Honorary Chair of the FAAN Walk for Food Allergy in San Francisco on Sept. 25.
