In 1997, FAAN created Food Allergy Awareness Week to educate others about food allergies, a potentially life threatening medical condition.
Help spread the word about the 13th annual Food Allergy Awareness Week (FAAW), May 9-15, 2010. This year, help those with food allergies “Respect Every Bite.”
FAAN has gone green for FAAW this year. All materials are available online.
The following states have formally recognized FAAW: Alabama, Arizona, Connecticut, Delaware, Georgia, Florida, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, and Wisconsin
Don’t see your state listed? Request a proclamation from your state governor.
The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), the lead institute at the National Institutes of Health for food allergy research, is also a supporter of Food Allergy Awareness Week, and they created an e-card to be sent in honor of Food Allergy Awareness Week. Would you like to help raise money for food allergy awareness? Here are some ideas, tips, and suggestions to take part in fundraising for FAAN.
Interested in making a presentation? Use one of the following presentations to educate others about FAAN and food allergies.
Do you have school-age children or are you looking to get others involved? Here are some ways to help schools and organizations participate in FAAW.
- Give out
PAL™ Hero awards to recognize those who help manage food allergies. Present them to schools, organizations, kids, even parents. You can also e-mail PAL™ Hero awards from www.faankids.org.
- Hang flyers or posters or pass out brochures at your local grocery store, library, and other places around town.

Do you have a story to tell? Attach your personal story to FAAN’s news release about FAAW, and send it to your local newspapers and television stations. They may just write a story about you.
