THE FOOD ALLERGY & ANAPHYLAXIS NETWORK (FAAN) BRINGS A BRIGHTER FUTURE TO ATTENDEES OF THE SECOND ANNUAL FOOD ALLERGY CONFERENCE IN BOSTON
FAAN Discusses Food Allergy Management at Half-Day Conference
(Fairfax, Va., October 9, 2006) — The Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Network (FAAN), the nation’s leading nonprofit, patient advocacy organization for advancing research on behalf of individuals affected by food allergies, will hold its second annual food allergy conference in Boston, MA at the Best Western-Inn at Longwood Medical on Saturday, October 14, 2006, from 8 a.m. to noon. This conference, “Food Allergies: A Brighter Future,” is one of three half-day meetings occurring this fall along with conferences being held in California and Michigan.
Conference attendees will gain a better understanding of the basic science behind food allergy and anaphylaxis, a severe allergic reaction which can cause death. It is estimated that nearly 150-200 people die annually from anaphylaxis to food, including children and young adults.
Attendees will also learn the symptoms and causes of allergic reactions, strategies for food allergy management in schools, and the latest updates on legislation and allergen or “may contain” labeling. In addition, attendees will be able to network with one of the top medical leaders in the field, Dr. Michael Young, Assistant Clinical Professor of Pediatrics at Harvard Medical School and Assistant in Medicine at Children’s Hospital in Boston.
“Every year, we try to make a bigger difference in the lives of people with food allergies,” said Anne Muñoz-Furlong, FAAN Founder and CEO. “It is through knowledge and education that we are able to create a brighter future for everyone impacted by food allergies and ultimately, save a life.”
The half-day conference will offer informative and unique sessions for all those affected by food allergy including relatives of children with food allergies as well as health care professionals, registered dietitians, caregivers, teachers, childcare providers, and school staff. Attendees will also receive free educational materials and have the opportunity to view and order the latest FAAN materials.
Registration is $50 for FAAN members and $60 for non-members or walk-ins. You may register online at www.foodallergy.org or by calling FAAN at 1-800-929-4040.
