Food Allergy Awareness Week
In 1997, FAAN created Food Allergy Awareness Week to educate others about food allergies.
Mark your calendars for the 13th annual Food Allergy Awareness Week, to be held May 9-15, 2010.
The 12th Annual Food Allergy Awareness Week (FAAW), held May 10-16, 2009, was a great success! Thousands of people all over the country spread the word about taking action to prevent food allergy reactions. FAAN members across the country raised awareness of food allergies in ways both great and small. Our heartfelt thanks to all of you for helping us educate others.
Here are some highlights:
- We distributed 1,170 FAAW packets.
- More than half of the states issued official proclamations recognizing FAAW.
- Nearly 150 articles about FAAW and food allergy were published, resulting in more than 66 million impressions (which represent the circulation of a hard-copy publication, the number of visitors to a website, or the audience of a television or radio program).
- The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases issued a statement in honor of FAAW, encouraging all Americans to help those affected by food allergies and highlighting its commitment to supporting food allergy research.
- Schools showcased displays so that others could learn about food allergies.
- Students created videos, taught their friends about FAAN’s Be a PAL: Protect A Life™ From Food Allergies program, and incorporated FAAW into school projects.
- People visited their legislators’ offices to educate them about food allergies, and requested proclamations from their governors. Some states even held news conferences to announce the signing of the proclamations.
