Letter Writing Campaign

Letter-Writing Campaign

When a child has a food allergy, life can be difficult. Parents must constantly watch everything their food-allergic children put into their mouths. Some live with constant fear that inadvertent contact with allergen-containing food will cause a life-threatening reaction. Many parents and others with food allergies have found comfort in sharing their stories and, through their letter-writing efforts, have provided family, friends, and others with the opportunity to support FAAN’s efforts to find a cure.

How to Get Started:

  1. Call FAAN at (800) 929-4040 and tell us that you are going to conduct a letter-writing campaign.
  2. Download the sample letter (.doc ~ 26kb) and write your personal story above the information already provided on the template.
  3. Compile a mailing list. Include family, friends, business contacts, names on holiday lists, and parents of your child’s classmates and teammates.
  4. Download the reply card (.pdf ~43kb). Print as many copies as you need. These cards include FAAN’s address so that family members and friends know where to send their donations. The card also provides information for potential donors to make their donations online.
  5. Assemble your mailing. Be sure to include your letter and a reply card in each envelope. Affix the correct postage to each item to be mailed.
  6. Send your letters via U.S. Postal Service.

That’s all there is to it! FAAN will send each donor a thank-you note when his or her donation is received in our office.

Feedback From a Member

The following is an excerpt from a letter that a FAAN member wrote us about her participation in a recent letter-writing campaign.

“What a wonderful experience that was! I found it really raised the awareness of my son’s allergies with the people around us. Not only did our family and friends become more aware, but they really felt like they were contributing to his cause — and, hopefully, to a solution to his allergy. Now, when we go to parties and cookouts, people go that extra mile to read ingredients and make sure things are peanut and nut free! Although I never let my guard down, I feel I can relax just a little more. To me, that is a success in itself!”--Christine, Hubertus, WI
